The prerequisites for enrolling
in CANY's internet-based programs are as follows:
Should be 17 years of age before beginning
class
Should possess a high school diploma or GED
The requirements listed above are recommendations
offered to help ensure that candidates enjoy optimal
benefit from their career training. Failure to meet
these recommended requirements does NOT necessarily
preclude one from enrolling.

Prospective
students must interview with a CANY admissions advisor
and complete an application for admission. In addition,
all other general and specific admission requirements
must be met, including those regarding age, prior
education and evaluation of proficiency in the basic
and prerequisite skills needed for the chosen field
of study.
Age Requirement
Each applicant must be at least 17 years old on the
first day of classes. Documentation of age may be
required.
Prior Education Requirement
Each applicant must be a high school graduate, hold
a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
or have a degree from a CANY-approved post-secondary
institution.
Documentation of the applicant's educational achievement
must be on file by the end of registration.
Transfer students
Applicants with prior post-secondary attendance must
present transcripts indicating all previous work.
Students requesting transfer credit for prior post-secondary
education must submit official transcripts before
credit is awarded. An informal evaluation of transfer
credit may be provided pending receipt of official
transcripts.
Evaluation of Proficiency
To determine admissibility and course placement, CANY
considers prior educational performance and proficiency
in basic college-level skills. In addition, some programs
require prerequisite skills.
Prior Educational Performance
Applicants are accepted if they meet at least one
of the following criteria:
Earned a qualifying associate degree or higher
from an approved U.S. post-secondary institution.
Completed an appropriate amount of qualifying
college-level work at approved U.S. post-secondary
institutions, with grades of at least C (70%) or a
cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00.
Achieved both of the following conditions while
in a U.S. high school:
1) Class rank at the 50th percentile or above, or
a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.70
on a 4.00 scale, at the end of the junior year or
later
2) An average grade of at least B (80%) in a full-year
high school mathematics course at the level of Algebra
I or above
Basic Skills Evaluation
Applicants must show proficiency in at least one of
the following ways:
Submit ACT or SAT examination scores deemed
appropriate by CANY.
Attain appropriate scores on CANY-administered
placement examinations in reading, writing, arithmetic
and elementary algebra.
Submit required documentation indicating acceptable
grades in qualifying work completed at an approved
institution.
Prerequisite Skills Requirement
CANY specifies additional prerequisite skills, which
must be demonstrated prior to enrolling in certain
program-related coursework. Evaluation of prerequisite
skills is done through CANY-administered placement
examinations or other standard means.
